Copper work and accents is a necessary partner to slate and tile roofing systems.  A durable but malleable substance is necessary to fill in the gaps created by the stone tiles. It had to be something with several characteristics - formability (malleability), beauty, and durability - able to compete with the longevity of slate. Copper was a winner. It has been used for more years than we count as a form for art, and brings its aesthetics to be a perfect match in this setting. 

Copper work is a specialized art-form. It requires expert planning and installation, not trained in the typical roofer. This is a true specialty of the roofing industry.

Copper Work. The Process.

1. Removal of original copper roofing
2. Inspection of underlying wood frame, replacement as needed (it's typically needed!)
3. Application of protective sheets (ice/water shield, tar paper, rosin paper, etc)
4. Copper assembly: custom-fit on-site, requires formation by hand and soldering at time of installation
5. Completed copper work by expert roofers have expected lifespan near 100 years
